Experience a new level of winter magic and be part of the inaugural season of the Ice Loop in the Central Plaza at City Square Park (1001 7th Avenue).

This unique seasonal attraction is expected to be in operation in Uptown Marion from Small Business Saturday through February, weather permitting.

The Ice Loop is open for public skating seven days a week, between 6 a.m.-10 p.m.; just bring your own skates. Its use is free to the public, unless the Skate Shack is open.

For a heightened skating experience, visit during the following times when full amenities are available for a minimal fee.

Skate Rental/Warming House Hours:

  • Thursday: 5-10 p.m.
  • Friday: 5-10 p.m.
  • Saturday: noon-10 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon-6 p.m.

Skates will be available to rent in the Skate Shack, a warming area and concessions will be offered in the Depot, and ice resurfacing, music and outdoor heaters will enhance the experience during the set times Thursday-Sunday.

Winter break, holidays, special events and program hours will vary.

Fees:

(only applicable when Skate Rentals/Warming House are open)

Admission:

  • Adult (Ages 18+) $5
  • Youth (Ages 5-17) $3
  • Children (Ages 4 & under) Free

Skate Rentals:

  • $3 per pair
  • Bring your own skates and pay admission only 

Season Punch Passes:

  • Buy 4 skate rentals + admission, get 1 free
  • Adult (Ages 18+) $32
  • Youth (Ages 5-17) $24

Financial support is available for those who qualify through RecAssist.

Outside of the hours noted above, the Skate Shack will not be open and skaters must bring their own skates.

Weather Guidelines:

  • Warm Weather: 55° - 59° - Open at sundown | 60° - 65° - Closed for the day | Over 65° - Closed until ice surface has recovered 
  • Cold Weather: The Ice Loop will close for the day when there are temperatures under 5° or wind-chill below 0° for a majority of the open hours.
  • Snow: The Ice Loop will remain open during winter weather, however measurable snowfall does impact the skating experience. In the event of significant snow accumulation, the Ice Loop will be cleared and opened as soon as possible.
  • School Closures: If both school districts close or cancel programming, Marion Parks and Recreation will not offer skate rentals or the warming house. The Ice Loop will remain open for public use.

What to do when you arrive:

1. Stop by the Skate Shack first.
2. Walk over to the Ice Loop entrance.
3. Check in with the Ice Loop attendant.
4. When it's time for a break, stop inside the Depot to warm up.
5. Remove your skates when you leave the ice and rubber surface.
