Curbside Collection
Please have carts at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
GARBAGE
- All material must be out at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day and placed within 3 feet of the curb.
- Receptacle must be the City-issued 48- or 64-gallon wheeled cart.
- The cart with the black lid is designated for garbage.
- The front of the cart should face the street, and the wheels and handle should face the home.
- The lid of the cart must close.
- Multiple containers should be set parallel to the curb, spaced a minimum of 3 feet apart.
- The 48-gallon cart has a 150-pound weight limit. The 64-gallon cart has a 200-pound weight limit.
- Animal waste must be bagged.
- Do not mix yard waste and garbage.
- An additional garbage cart can be purchased by contacting Public Works at 319-377-6367.
- All garbage placed in the cart should be in tied bags.
- Carts are to remain with the home upon selling.
- One additional bag of garbage, tagged with a $2.50 sticker, is accepted per week as long as it is placed on top of the garbage cart on collection day with the sticker facing the street.

One additional bag of garbage, beyond the 48 or 64-gallon container must have a $2.50 sticker attached. Stickers may be purchased at the following locations:
- Marion City Hall
- Marion Public Works Facility
- Casey’s General Store: Lindale Drive and S. 11th Street
- BP: East Post Road
- Fareway: Marion and 1st Avenue in Cedar Rapids
- Hy-Vee Stores: Marion and Mt. Vernon Road in Cedar Rapids
- Hy-Vee Drug Store: Boyson Road in Cedar Rapids
- Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh: 7th Avenue
- Kum & Go: 7th Avenue and Blairs Ferry Road

RECYCLING
- All material must be out at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day and placed within 3 feet of the curb.
- Receptacle must be the City-issued 48- or 64-gallon wheeled cart.
- The cart with the blue lid is designated for recycling.
- The front of the cart should face the street, and the wheels and handle should face the home.
- The lid of the cart must close.
- Multiple containers should be set parallel to the curb, spaced a minimum of 3 feet apart.
- An additional recycling cart can be purchased by contacting Public Works at 319-377-6367.
- Recyclables should be EMPTY, CLEAN and DRY! No sorting required.
- Just because there’s a recycling symbol doesn’t mean the item is recyclable in Linn County.
- Glass is NOT accepted at the curb. Glass can be recycled at the Recycling Drop-Off Center, the Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency or placed in the garbage.
- Carts are to remain with the home upon selling.
- Oversized cardboard may be dropped off at the Recycling Drop-Off Center.
- The dumping of appliances or furniture is prohibited at the Recycling Drop-Off Center.
- The Recycling Drop-Off Center is monitored by video surveillance.

Here's a look at the curbside rules and services offered.
The City of Marion follows the Solid Waste Agency's guidelines of what is/isn't accepted curbside. Please visit their website for the most up to date information.

- Yard Waste is collected curbside only for those with a 64-gallon City-issued yard waste cart. Bio-degradable paper bags are no longer collected at the curb.
- Curbside Yard Waste Collection is an opt-in program. There is an additional monthly fee for this service. To opt-in, call Public Works at 319-377-6367.
- Cost to opt in is $6 per month ($72/year). The fee, added to your City utility bill, is charged year-round to minimize administrative and cart delivery/pick-up expenses.
- There is no limit to the number of additional yard waste carts, however, each additional cart comes with a monthly fee of $10 to cover the collection costs and processing fees for yard waste.
- There is a one-time activation fee of $50 if you pick up the cart at Public Works, or $75 if the City delivers the cart to your home (deliveries are made on Fridays).
- Yard waste is collected at the curb on collection day April through the end of November. This may be extended based on seasonal conditions.
- All material must be out at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day and placed within 3 feet of the curb.
- The 64-gallon cart with the green lid is designated for yard waste and has 200 pound weight limit. The lid of the cart must close in order for it to be collected.
- Sod or dirt are not accepted at the curb or the compost site. Yard waste and garbage may not be mixed.
- Carts are to remain with the home upon selling.
- Please remember, raking leaves or mowing grass into the street is prohibited in Marion.
If you have leaves or yard waste that you wish to dispose of, the Yard Waste Drop-off Facility is open year round.
