The City of Marion's strategic plan provides guidance to the City Council and staff when making both long- and short-term decisions for the community. The strategic plan runs parallel to the City's annual operating budget--by fiscal year, beginning July 1 and ending June 30.

Each winter, the City Council holds public work sessions to carefully review the current year's strategic plan. The goals for and needs of the community are evaluated against the existing plan, and recommendations for amending it for the next fiscal year are discussed. Once this process is complete, the City Council approves the revised strategic plan; this typically occurs in the spring, prior to the start of the new fiscal year.
