Marion to Celebrate Partnerships and Completed Playground Projects Next Week
Both playgrounds were replaced as part of the annual equipment replacement program and support the City’s commitment to safe, inclusive and engaging play environments for all children. With Council approval, the next anticipated playground replacement project will be Gill Park in 2026.

City Offices to Close in Observance of Veterans Day
Garbage, recycling and yard waste will be collected according to the normal schedule all week. The Yard Waste Drop-off Facility and Recycling Center, located at 195 35th Street, will be closed on Tuesday.

Marion Fire Department Recruiting Additional Community Emergency Response Team Volunteers
Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid Iowa driver's license and complete the 20+ hour FEMA Community Emergency Response Team training curriculum (provided by the Marion Fire Department and Linn County Emergency Management staff).

Linn County Hazmat Team Training at Linn Co-Op Tonight
The Linn County Hazmat Team will be at the Linn Co-Op in Marion, 3544 3rd Ave., this evening, Oct. 30, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., training on some new liquid propane (LP) emergency equipment.

Marion Police Department Hosting Coloring Contest
The Marion Police Department is hosting a coloring contest to coincide with its trick-or-treat event on Oct. 31. Children up to the age of 8 can choose from one of the coloring sheets provided featuring Officer Daubs or K9 Taj. Completed coloring sheets should be submitted by Nov. 7.

Double the Free Halloween Fun in Uptown Marion on October 25
Uptown Marion will come alive with Halloween fun on Saturday, Oct. 25, as two free community events fill the district with costumes and creativity. Families can enjoy the Marion Monster Mash in City Square followed by the Uptown Marion Spooktacular dining event at participating restaurants.

City of Marion and Marion YMCA & Community Rec Center Announce Community Days; Special One-Day Access for Residents
The next Community Day will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26 with additional dates on the last Sunday of every month moving forward. Fall/winter operating hours will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Marion Fire Department Responds to a Fall from a Communications Tower Resulting in Fatality
At approximately 12:30 p.m. today, Oct. 10, 2025, the Marion Fire Department was dispatched to 3602 N 10th Street, Marion, for an individual who had fallen from a cell tower and was unconscious.
