Marion Police Department Issues Update Related to Officer-Involved Shooting
The State of Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has completed its independent investigation and the Office of the Attorney General of Iowa has completed its review of this incident and concluded that the Feb. 4, 2026, officer-involved shooting was legally justified.

Marion City Hall to Close on Friday for Employees to Relocate to First Floor; Meetings Return to City Hall Beginning March 16
The moving process will begin on Thursday, March 5, with limited services available at Marion City Hall. On Friday, March 6, City Hall will be closed to walk-in traffic so that employees can clean, move furniture and relocate their workspaces to the first floor.

Marion Civil Rights Commission Accepting Housing Assistance Grant Applications
The Marion Civil Rights Commission is currently accepting applications for the Marion Low & Moderate Income Housing Assistance Grant to be awarded in 2026. The Marion City Council has approved up to $20,000 for use in this grant program.

Marion Accepting Applications for Military Tribute Banner Program
The program is designed to recognize and show appreciation for veterans and military personnel and their families with ties to Marion. The banners will be placed on as many as 50 decorative streetlight poles throughout the community. They will go up along with 40 banners that were sponsored in 2025.

Second Installment of Property Taxes Due
The second installment of property and mobile home taxes in Linn County is due March 1, 2026, per Iowa code. Property owners may pay their taxes without late fees through March 31.

Linn County Board of Supervisors Appoints Members to Solid Waste Working Group
The working group formed out of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by Linn County, Marion, Cedar Rapids, and the Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency agreeing to work together to address the future of the landfill located at 1954 County Home Road.

Warmer Temperatures May Shorten the Ice Loop Season; Skaters Encouraged to Visit this Weekend
While the Ice Loop is a refrigerated facility and not entirely dependent on outdoor temperatures, sustained warm weather can affect ice quality and safety. Residents who have been waiting to skate are encouraged to take advantage of what could be the final opportunity of the season.

Traffic Signals at Intersection of Highway 13/151 Restored
Northbound traffic on Highway 13 and eastbound traffic on Highway 151 will be diverted east on Linn Aire Avenue to 62nd Street, then north to reconnect with Highway 151.
