The City of Marion invites area commercial contractors, builders and developers to an informational session on Tuesday, Feb. 3, between 9-10:30 a.m. at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center. Then, at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 3, the focus will shift to residential contractors.

The City of Marion, along with its partners Anderson Bogert and Universal Field Services, is ready to share the plans for the next phase of construction on 7th Avenue from 12th to 22nd Streets. An open house and input session is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the library.

Those elected to serve on Marion City Council in the November election will take a ceremonial oath of office on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. It will be the first order of business during the regular City Council Meeting at the Linn-Mar Education Leadership Center, located at 3556 Winslow Rd.

Garbage and recycling collection will happen according to the normal schedule for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday routes. It will be delayed by one day for Thursday and Friday routes both weeks, happening Friday and Saturday instead.

If not disposed of properly, many batteries can spark fires or explosions. Some batteries contain hazardous chemicals that can be harmful. If landfilled, these batteries can contaminate land and waterways.

City crews plan to work overnight in Uptown Marion starting at 2 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, clearing 6th, 7th and 8th Avenues and the associated areas between 9th and 13th Streets. They will also address some of the large piles that have accumulated in City-owned lots.

On especially windy days, we send crews ahead of the truck to pick up any carts that have tipped. They also pick up any debris within 5 feet of the cart.

City crews have completed snow removal operations in Marion from the weekend storm. The on-street parking ban for all city streets has been lifted and on-street parking can resume. The ban was in place to minimize the hazards associated with snow removal operations.

Winter Storm Parking will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. This means parking on all City streets is prohibited. No on-street parking helps minimize the hazards associated with snow removal operations and provides residents with a more efficient response.

Warming centers are facilities where people can temporarily go during periods of extreme cold temperatures to get out of dangerous weather conditions. These facilities may be accessed during their normal hours of operation.
