Winter Storm Parking in Effect in Marion starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday; Garbage Collection Delayed by One Day All Week

Post Date:03/14/2026 2:01 PM

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning and is forecasting more than 5 inches of snow for Marion from Sunday into Monday.

Winter Storm Parking will go into effect at 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 15. This means parking on all City streets in Marion is prohibited. No on-street parking helps minimize the hazards associated with snow removal operations and provides residents with a more efficient response.

The Marion Police Department will enforce parking restrictions with towing and ticketing. Parking will not be restricted in the central business district/Uptown Marion during normal business hours.

For those unable to park on a hard surface area on their property, temporary parking is allowed at:

  • Lowe Park, 4500 N. 10th Street
  • Lowe Park Playground, 4401 Irish Drive
  • Taube Park, 2200 31st Street
  • Willowood Park, 1855 35th Street
  • Starry Park, 1480 Grand Avenue
  • Peg Pierce Softball Complex, 3205 3rd Avenue
  • The former library site, 1095 6th Avenue

Garbage Collection Delayed
To maximize snow removal operations, garbage/recycling collection will be delayed by one day all week. Collection will happen instead from Tuesday through Saturday. Additionally, the Yard Waste Drop-Off Facility (195 35th Street) will be closed on Monday.
