Marion is lacing up for winter fun with the debut of the Ice Loop in the Central Plaza at City Square Park (1001 7th Avenue) on Dec. 5. It will officially open to the public at 7 p.m., following an ice-skating demonstration by the Eastern Iowa Figure Skating Club as part of the Christmas in the Park event.
This unique seasonal attraction promises to create a new level of winter magic in Uptown Marion from now through February, weather permitting.
Operating Hours:
- Thursday: 5-10 p.m.
- Friday: 5-10 p.m.
- Saturday: noon-10 p.m.
- Sunday: noon-6 p.m.
During operating hours, staff will be on-site, admission will be charged and skate rentals will be offered.
Open skating is available anytime outside of these hours for no charge (unless maintenance is being performed). Visitors will need to bring their own skates.
Winter break, holidays, special events and program hours will vary.
Weather Guidelines:
The Ice Loop is refrigerated, however there are some temperatures and conditions that may impact operations.
- Warm Weather: 55° - 59° - Open at sundown | 60° - 65° - Closed for the day | Over 65° - Closed until ice surface has recovered
- Cold Weather: The Ice Loop will close for the day when there are temperatures under 5° or wind-chill below 0° for a majority of the open hours. The City will refer to the National Weather Service forecast.
- Snow: In the event of snow, the Ice Loop will be cleared and opened as soon as possible.

Concessions and a warming area are available during operating hours in the Depot. Please note, the Ice Loop point-of-sale system is cashless.
