Marion is the place to be this Saturday with the 33rd annual Marion Arts Festival happening on 7th Avenue in Uptown Marion and Great American Kites happening at the PeeWee Diamonds at Lowe Park.
Localized road closures will be in place to accommodate the festival and races. Additionally, an asphalt overlay project is currently underway on 8th Avenue between 6th and 10th Streets, and westbound traffic is detoured.
Marion Arts Festival
Seventh Avenue between 10th and 12th Streets will close at 5 a.m. on Friday, May 16, for vendor move-in and remain closed until 9 p.m. on Saturday. Detours will be posted. Parking is available on-street surrounding the event zone, in the City lot at the corner of 8th Avenue and 12th Street and the City Hall lot at 1225 6th Avenue.
Marion Arts Festival Half Marathon and 5K
Both the half marathon and the 5K races will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, and will impact travel throughout Marion until approximately 11 a.m. that morning. The start/finish line will be set up on 5th Avenue, between Vernon Middle School and Marion City Hall. Several officers will assist runners and motorists as they navigate the area roadways. The race routes will see intermittent closures, depending on the volume of runners passing by. Drivers are asked to be patient during delays so that officers and volunteers can keep the runners safe.
