As virus activity increases in eastern Iowa, the City of Marion is taking additional measures to help reduce community spread.

Programming Cancellations
All in-person programming hosted by Marion Parks and Recreation or Marion Public Library has been cancelled for the next two weeks. The status of December programs will be evaluated at the end of this month.

Rental Cancellations
All facility rentals at the Thomas Park Safe Room and Lowe Park Arts and Environment Center have been cancelled through the end of November.

Building Inspections
Temporary changes have been introduced to the building inspection process. Inspections will be scheduled based on priority and will require a 48-hour notice. Only one person will be allowed on a job site during an inspection. Find the prioritized list for inspections.

Rental Inspections
All rental inspections scheduled between now and Nov. 30, 2020 have been postponed. Complaint and emergency inspections will continue during this time, however face-to-face interaction will be limited.

City Facilities Remain Closed
City facilities in Marion remain closed to walk-in traffic. Staff continue to work on-site and remotely to serve the community. Residents and businesses may conduct City business online, by phone or via email. Find the latest information at www.cityofmarion.org/COVID-19response.

Mask Advisory in Effect
Last month, Mayor Nick AbouAssaly, with the support of Marion City Council, signed an updated emergency proclamation advising the use of face coverings in public places throughout Marion, whenever proper social distance cannot be maintained. Scientific evidence has shown that face coverings over the mouth and nose significantly reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

The advisory recommends that all persons in Marion wear a face covering such as a cloth mask, shield or other covering over one’s nose and mouth when:

• in any public place and unable to stay at least six feet away from others
• inside any indoor public space, such as in retail establishments, restaurants, bars, even if able to maintain six feet of distance and not actively eating or drinking
• using public transportation or private car services such as taxis, ride share or carpooling
