Public Open House Set for March 3 for ImaginArt in the Alleys Project
In 2014, Marion was one of 55 communities in the nation, and the only in Iowa, to receive a $350,000 ArtPlace America grant. Marion’s project, ImaginArt in the Alleys, will bring life, vitality and art to Uptown Marion alleyways while helping to create a second entrance for businesses along 7th Avenue. The project encompasses the alleys between 10th and 12th Streets and 7th and 8th Avenues in Uptown Marion.
A public open house has been set for Tuesday, March 3 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the first floor at Marion City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue. Preliminary design concepts will be presented and the public is encouraged to view the renderings and provide feedback. Representatives from the City of Marion and Shive-Hattery will be on hand to answer questions.
Public input has been an integral part of this project with surveys, visioning sessions and an online portal, http://imaginartinthealleys.mindmixer.com, being used to gather and prioritize ideas. Share your ideas via the MindMixer site anytime or plan to attend the public open house on March 3.
ImaginArt in the Alleys is an ArtPlace America project and collaborative effort between the Marion Chamber of Commerce, Uptown Marion (an Iowa Main Street District), and the City of Marion. The 18-month project is facilitated by Art Director Karen Hoyt and supported by a Public Art Committee.
