7th Avenue/7th Street Roundabout Now Open to Traffic
City staff, community leaders and Chamber ambassadors gathered on Thursday, Nov. 10 for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the 7th Avenue/7th Street roundabout project in Marion. The ceremony took place at 4 p.m. south of Zio Johno’s, near the intersection of 6th Avenue and 7th Street. The roundabout opened to traffic following the ceremony.
Completion of this project helps implement a long-term traffic management plan for Marion’s core, balancing traffic between 6th and 7th Avenues, eventually creating a more pedestrian-friendly atmosphere in Uptown Marion.
"This is a key piece in giving drivers a choice of routes through one of the most congested parts of the city,” said Marion City Manager Lon Pluckhahn. “It is a long-term safety improvement for the community."
The project was funded through general obligation bonds and a $1 million grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Iowa Clean Air Attainment Program.
Project information and roundabout resources are available at www.cityofmarion.org/centralcorridor.
