Effective Jan. 1, 2017, the City of Marion will discontinue its practice of providing a discount for solid waste collection for households where all adults are over the age of 65.
The Iowa Auditor of State recently issued an opinion stating that rate exemptions based upon age are non-compliant and inconsistent with state law as established in Section 388.6 of the Code of Iowa.
On Jan. 1, the monthly fee for residential garbage, recycling and yard waste collection will be $14.25 per month.
