Those elected to serve on Marion City Council in the November election took the oath of office on Jan. 5, 2016 at 4 p.m. It was the first order of business during the regular City Council Work Session at Marion City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue in Marion.
Nicolas AbouAssaly was sworn in as the City’s next mayor. Returning Ward 1 council member, Kim Etzel, and At-Large representative, Paul Draper, also took the oath of office. Randy Strnad, was sworn in as the council’s appointee to fill the remaining term in AbouAssaly’s Ward 4 seat.
Will Brandt, Ward 3 council member also elected in November, took the oath of office on Nov. 17 to fill the seat vacated by former Ward 3 representative Cody Crawford.
The Marion City Council is made up of seven members, including the mayor, who serve staggered four-year terms.
