UTILITY BILLING RATES
Marion's utility rates are detailed on the Utility Billing Rates schedule. Below are brief descriptions of the various rates.
As more demands are placed on our water supply, the City recognizes the need to be responsible about water usage. Our inclining rate structure charges users a higher rate the more water used. Please refer to the Utility Billing Rates schedule for detail.

Wastewater (sewer) treatment costs are tied directly to the amount of water consumed. The City of Marion contracts with the City of Cedar Rapids Water Pollution Control division to treat the city's wastewater. Since July 2007, the charges incurred by the City of Marion have more than doubled. Marion's rates are adjusted periodically to cover the costs incurred.
To meet new state and federal mandates, the City of Marion has adopted a new stormwater utility rate structure. An equivalent run-off unit (ERU) system charges the highest fees to the largest stormwater run-off producers. The program also includes a credit system to incentivize non-residential property owners for their stormwater run-off reduction efforts. Monthly stormwater utility rates include a basic service charge and a rate per ERU as stated in the Utility Billing Rate Schedule.
URBAN FOREST RATES
To help maintain trees on City owned property and provide for the disposal and re-use of tree-related materials, a utility fee of $2.25 per month has been established.
GARBAGE RATE $14.50 Per Month Per Unit (effective 8/1/2017)
