PURPOSE:The Marion Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) was established by the City Council in 1999 to oversee the development and management of Marion's Historic Preservation Program. This program is focused on increasing public awareness of Marion's heritage; identifying historic and cultural resources; designating and recognizing significant local resources; and assisting in protecting, preserving and enhancing the best examples of Marion's past.
The City currently has three historic districts recognized by the National Register of Historic Places.
- The Pucker Street Historic District (Nominated 2002)
- Terrace Park Historic District (Nominated 2005)
- Uptown Commercial Historic District (Nominated 2009)
These three nationally recognized historic districts are subject to the regulations of the Historic Structure Preservation Ordinance that requires City Council approval following a public hearing regarding the potential demolition of any structure within the district.

MEETING TIMES:The Historic Preservation Commission meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 a.m. in the 2nd Floor Training Room at Marion City Hall (1225 6th Avenue). The presence of three (3) members is necessary to constitute a quorum. This is an open meeting and the public is invited to attend.
