Summer Art Camps CHILDREN GRADES 2ND–8TH

Join local art instructor, Mike Brandt, for some interactive art camps this summer at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center. There will be a total of 6 different sessions offered, so please look at each camp’s area of concentration.
Registrations accepted at Lowe or Thomas Park, however payment must be made in the form of cash or check payable to
Michael Brandt.

Limited number of spots available each session.

Session 1: Cartooning for Kids I

This class explores the art of cartooning. We will use the art elements to dive into creating cartoons in many different mediums.

Cartooning I Mon-Fri 6/10-6/14 9-11 a.m.

Session 2: Painting for Kids I

This class explores the many ways of painting. We will use tempera, watercolor, and acrylic paint to create works of art. They will be exposed to many painting techniques from the world of painting.

Painting I Mon-Fri 6/10-6/14 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Session 3: Cartooning for Kids II (new material)

This class continues the art of cartooning. You do not have to have previous cartooning to take this class. We will explore new and different projects in cartooning.

Cartooning II Mon-Fri 6/17-6/21 9-11 a.m.

Session 4: Painting for Kids II (new material)

This class continues the art of painting. You do not have to take previous painting to take this class. We will explore new and different projects in painting.

Painting II Mon-Fri 6/17-6/21 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. 

Session 5: Sculpture for Kids I

This class will experience the art of sculpture. Students will create sculptures with wood, plastic, air clay, recycled items, and more.

Sculpture I Mon-Fri 6/24-6/28 9-11 a.m. 

Session 6: Sculpture for Kids II (new material)

This class continues the art of sculpting. You do not have to take previous sculpture to take this class. Students will create different
sculptures with wood, plaster, air clay, recycled items, and more.

Sculpture II  Mon-Fri 6/24-6/28 9:00a.m.-11:00p.m.

 NEW! Day Camps For Kids CHILDREN GRADES K-8TH

The Marion Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Linn County 4-H to offer some summer day camps right here in Marion. These day-long camps are educational and sure to keep your child's attention. Description of each camp located in right column. Limited number of spots available each camp.

REGISTRATION FEE: $20 per camp (registration through ISU Extension)
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: 1 week prior to class date

Participants should bring sack lunch for each camp.

 

Camp 1: On Their Own & OK (4th-6th) Tuesday, June 11  9a.m.-3p.m.  at Thomas Park

This is a workshop that helps build skills, maturity, and confidence in youth to safely stay home alone. Topics include:
☑ Rules and a basic schedule for when your child is home alone.
☑ Choosing and making basic, healthy foods on their own.
☑ Procedures if someone comes to the door when you’re gone.
☑ Management for squabbles that occur between siblings.
This workshop does not certify your child is ready to be home alone. Your child will have fun during this hands-on workshop & leave our
workday with a family workbook to guide you through discussing expectations together.

Camp 2: Building Blocks of Entrepreneurship: Lego Challenge (6th-8th)  Tuesday, June 18 9a.m.-3p.m. at Lowe Park

Dive into the world of entrepreneurship with LEGOs! Learn what it takes to create a new idea, develop a plan, and share your results
through creativity, innovation, and communication. Participants will work in teams to develop an idea for making their community a better
place to live. Using LEGOs, participants will work together to build a model, create a presentation poster, and market their idea. The day will end with a fun showcase from participants for their families & guests.

Camp 3: Expand My World: Passport To Adventure (K-2nd)  Tuesday, July 9  9a.m.-3p.m. at Lowe Park

What better way to spend the day than traveling the world! Through incredible stories and engaging activities, participants will embark on a cultural journey that includes the exploration of languages, traditions, games, music, dance and cuisine from around the world. Join us for this adventure around the globe!

Camp 4: Expand My World: Global Trek (3rd-5th)  Tuesday, July 16 9a.m.-3p.m. at Lowe Park

Join us for a global trek exploring cultures around the world! Through engaging activities, participants will embark on a cultural journey that includes the exploration of languages, traditions, games, music, dance and cuisine from around the world. Grab your passports & join us on this amazing journey!

Camp 5: STEAM Lab: Makerspace Mania (K-2nd)  Monday, July 22  9a.m.-3p.m. at Thomas Park

Embark on a STEAM journey where you’ll be challenged to experiment, design, and build things! Immerse yourself in STEAM
(science, technology, engineering, art, and math) through tinkering, problem solving, experiential learning, and making. We’ll work together on challenges where participants will make upcycled crafts, design and test rockets, and even learn about basic electrical circuits. Join us for an action-packed day in our mini makerspace.

Camp 6: STEAM Lab: Master Makers (3rd-5th) Wednesday,  July 31 9a.m.-3p.m.  at Thomas Park

Explore the art of science & the science of art! Imaginations are charged as participants create and invent things to solve problems.
Upcycle materials into new & useful contraptions in our mini makerspace. Use science, technology, engineering, art, & math in
new and dynamic ways. We’ll explore rocket building, cardboard construction, circuit basics, solar energy, & more!
