Ride to Wrigley  Chartered Bus Trip

Join the Marion and Hiawatha Parks and Recreation Departments for a chartered trip to one of the baseball's greatest and most historic venues.... Wrigley Field.  Leave the transportation and parking to us and travel in comfort in a chartered motor coach to watch the Chicago Cubs battle the Los Angeles Dodgers from the bleachers.  These teams have a recent history with one another, squaring off the last two seasons in the National League Championship Series. 

Fee: $90.00 per tickets (includes game ticket and bus fee)

Snowman Selfies OPEN TO ALL AGES

It’s Iowa, it’s going to snow! Get out and enjoy the great outdoors when the white stuff starts to fly this winter. Simply build yourself a snowman anytime there is snow on the ground. Snap a selfie with your snowman and send it to Please include your contact information and name for your cool snowman. Pictures will be posted to the Marion Parks and Recreation’s Facebook page and the "Snowman Selfie" with the most “Likes” at the end of the program will receive a prize from the department. Creativity will help, so make your snowman standout.

Curling Clinic OPEN TO ALL AGES  Curling Clinic 2017

It's that time again...Time for the WINTER OLYMPICS! What better way to kick them off then by joining the Cedar Rapids Curling Club as they teach all the ins and outs of curling. This clinic will feature demonstrations and a live round of
curling by the experts. Participants will get to try the equipment out for themselves as well. Weather permitting.

City of Marion Night at the Stable OPEN TO ALL MARION RESIDENTS  Rough Riders

Time for some hockey! Join us for City of Marion Night at the Stable when the RoughRiders take on the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Any Marion employee or resident is eligible to buy discounted tickets ($4 off regular price per ticket) for themselves, their family, and friends. Bring the whole family and wear your favorite hockey jersey.

NEW! Friends of the Parks Scavenger Hunt OPEN TO ALL AGES

The Friends of the Marion Parks have put together a new scavenger hunt to keep you exploring this summer. Visit four (4) Marion Parks and identify the items on the scavenger hunt sheet. Check or “X” each item as you find them. Turn in your completed forms and any photos/selfies of your family completing the scavenger hunt at the recreation office at Lowe Park. Scavenger Hunt forms can be picked up at the Lowe Park or Thomas Park or printed from the Marion Parks website.

NEW! Peddling Thru The Parks OPEN TO ALL AGES

Enjoy one of Marion's greatest amenities...the trails! Ride the bike trails that start at Thomas Park. There are five trails starting in Thomas Park that go to Hanna Park (1.6 miles round trip), Donnelly Park (Boyson Trail, 2.5 miles round trip), Lindale Trail, (1.5 to 4 miles round trip), Menards Trail (2.5 miles). Bike the trails as a family and earn stamps at the turnaround of each trail. Prizes awarded to all participants and families with the most stamps will win special prizes.

B-I-N-G-O Nights at Lowe Park OPEN TO ALL AGES  Bingo Night

Join us at the Lowe Park Arts & Environment Center for nights of fun, socializing, and a chance to win some cash! Games of BINGO will be played for $.25 per card, per game. Cash prizes are paid to the winner of each game. There will also be a few bonus games with increased payouts. The night will conclude with a winner take-all game of blackout. Participants are welcome to bring food and drinks to enjoy while they play. Doors will open at 6 p.m.  Seats and cards are limited and are on a first come, first serve basis.
Fee: FREE to attend, but cards are $0.25 per card, per game

Join the Friends of the Marion Parks at Marion's newest park, Waldo's Rock Park. The "rock" is a towering piece of stone and is one of the oldest glacial rocks in Iowa. Visit Marion’s newest park where there will be activities for all ages including learning about rocks, collecting and painting rocks. Look for more information as the date gets closer.

City of Marion Day at the Ballpark OPEN TO ALL MARION RESIDENTS Kernels Logo

What is better than a summer day at the ballpark? The answer...a discounted summer day at the ballpark! Join other Marion residents and help pack the ballpark for City of Marion Day with the Kernels as they battle the Quad Cities River Bandits. Kids 12 and under eat free that day, and are given a voucher at the main gates for a hot dog, popcorn, and a drink. Additionally, kids can run the bases, play catch in the outfield, and get autographs from the Kernels players after the game.
Tickets: Discounted tickets ($8 Club Seats-Section 111) are available for purchase in person at the Kernels box office or by calling 896-7560, just mention City of Marion to receive the discount.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) hosts free fishing weekend for Iowa residents only during the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday of June (1, 2, 3). Get out and enjoy the waterways and give fishing a try on this free fishing weekend. All fishing regulations must be obeyed during your fishing outing. Marion Parks and Recreation is not able to host a fishing clinic this year, but please check the Iowa DNR's website ( for more information, programs, popular fishing locations, and rules and regulations for fishing in Iowa.
Fee: FREE, no fishing license required for Iowa residents ONLY

Sunrise Yoga OPEN TO ALL AGES 

Yoga, FitnessBack by popular demand! Join the Marion Parks & Recreation Department, Marion Blue Zones Project®, and local fitness clubs/gyms for some FREE outdoor yoga this summer. Sunrise Yoga will be held each Saturday morning in June, July, and August outdoors at the beautiful Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park. Participants should bring a yoga mat or towel for class. Each class will be led by a certified instructor from a different area yoga studio or gym Fee: FREE, just show up ready to get your workout on.

Fall Into Fitness OPEN TO ALL AGES 

Whether you are looking for a new fitness class, tired of doing the same old fitness routine, or just want to get started, this is the class for you! The best part of all, it is absolutely FREE. Join the Marion Parks & Recreation Department and Marion Blue Zones Project® for this fitness series held outdoor at the Klopfenstein Amphitheater at Lowe Park.
Each week, for 4 weeks, a different fitness routine will be demonstrated by a certified instructor. Find a routine or class that suits your needs and get more active today! Complete schedule of classes to be released during late summer 2018.
Fee: FREE, just show up ready to get your workout on
