Organized in 2002, Friends of the Marion Parks, a non-profit organization, has supported the parks through purchasing needed equipment, providing a corps of volunteers, and coordinating park staff recognition. Volunteers help plant, water and weed flower beds and assist with the Marion Farmers Market and other community events.
The Board of Friends of the Marion Parks meets the second Thursday at 7 pm from March to October. Since all projects are supported by memberships and donations, a membership drive occurs in early September, but new and renewal memberships are welcomed anytime. Individual memberships are $10; family memberships are $15, and lifelong memberships are $175. Memorials are also greatly appreciated and tax-deductible, as are all memberships and donations.
If you have ideas for projects, are interested in volunteering, or would like to serve on the Board, please contact the Marion Parks and Recreation Department 319-447-3590.
