ImaginArt in the Alleys will bring life, vitality and art to Uptown Marion alleyways, while creating a second entrance for businesses along 7th Avenue. The project will transform the alleys through a combination of infrastructure improvements and the installation of creative projects. It is a collaborative effort between ArtPlace America, the City of Marion, and the Marion Chamber of Commerce. The City received a $350,000 grant from ArtPlace America for ImaginArt in the Alleys. ArtPlace America's primary focus is on creative place-making, which the organization defines as the set of practices in which art and culture work intentionally to help transform a place. The remainder of the project funds will come from the City of Marion and private donations.
The City of Marion contracted with Shive-Hattery for engineering services associated with the project. The firm developed conceptual designs for the alleyways which can be accessed here.
