About the Hotel/Motel Grant Program
The City of Marion collects a seven percent room tax on overnight stays at hotel and motels in the community. Revenues from the tax may legally be used to fund projects that increase tourism and for public improvements. The City uses a formal grant application process to promote orderly and efficient use of the portion of room tax funds retained by the City. City staff, City Council representatives, and Council-appointed citizens will review applications, determine recommended funding allocations, and make a recommendation to the Council for use of the funds.
All grant awards are to be requested and expended within 12 months after being awarded (July - June). If payout is not requested by the end of June, funds will be forfeited and revert back to the Hotel/Motel Fund. No extensions will be accepted. When completing the application, please only request funds that will be used July through June.
The City Council will make the final determination of projects to be awarded grant funds. Administration of the project awards will be handled by City staff.
