The City of Marion is requesting proposals from parties interested in acquiring and relocating two properties; 525 11th Street and 520 12th Street in Marion. Tours will be available upon request the week of Jan. 7, 2019. Responses are due by Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019.

A ribbon cutting will be held Dec. 12 to celebrate the completion of two new segments of Grant Wood Trail stretching from 31st Street east to Highway 13. It will take place at 12:30 p.m. on the trail near the intersection of 35th Street and 4th Avenue, north of the Centex station in Marion.

The Water Department maintains the water mains required to deliver water to homes and businesses. Property owners are responsible for the connection to the water main, the piping that carries the water from the water main, the curb stop box, the water meter, shutoff valves and pipes.

The Marion Fire Department keeps very busy during the month of October educating area youth on fire safety. They visited about 620 kindergarten students, 560 first graders and 621 third graders during Fire Prevention Week alone.

In an effort to improve firefighting skills, the Marion Fire Department will be conducting a live house burn on Saturday, Oct.6. This training will take place at 880 2nd Street. The estimated training times are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
