Marion Fire Department Cautions Residents about Fire Inspection Scam
The Marion Fire Department has been made aware of a scam in which an unknown company is contacting residents to set up appointments to check smoke detectors or conduct fire safety audits. The company is representing themselves as being affiliated with the City of Marion.
The City of Marion and Marion Fire Department have not asked any companies to act on their behalf. Members of the Marion Fire Department did partner with the American Red Cross over the weekend to install smoke detectors in high-risk neighborhoods, but that effort is complete.
If someone comes to your home, claiming to be from the City of Marion, they will do so in a vehicle that has the city/department logo and will be able to produce a city-issued identification badge. Public safety personnel will be in uniform.
Additionally, solicitors are required to obtain a license from the City of Marion and must produce a copy upon request.
If you are suspicious about someone attempting to gain access to your home, report the incident to the Marion Police Department by calling 319-377-1511.
