Marion Fire Department Awarded Walmart Community Grant
The Marion Fire Department (MFD) is pleased to be named a $1,000 Walmart Community Grant award recipient. The funds will be used to purchase smoke detector batteries for the department’s Battery Up! program.
The MFD’s Fire Prevention Bureau provides a wide array of targeted fire/safety education and public outreach programs. In addition to replacing smoke detectors for those in need, the Battery Up! program provides replacement batteries upon request and helps install the batteries when residents are physically unable to do so and do not have a family member or friend that can help.
In addition, the bureau also orchestrates fire prevention messages to every kindergarten, first and third grade classroom during Fire Prevention Week. It organizes fire extinguisher training, targeted home safety classes, public education events and other social gatherings.
If you need assistance or have questions about smoke detectors, please contact the Marion Fire Department at 319-377-8237.
