Marion to Celebrate Arbor Day April 28
The Marion Parks and Recreation Department, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Trees Forever are teaming up to celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting ceremony at noon on Friday, April 28. The planting will take place at the new south entrance to Lowe Park at the intersection of Irish Drive and West Williams Drive in Marion.
The event will include remarks from local supporters as well as the planting of 200 hardwood sapling trees to expand the woodland area. Proper tree planting techniques will be demonstrated and all are welcome to attend and participate. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and closed toe shoes with the possibility of getting dirty.
Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. As a formal holiday, it was first observed in 1872, in Nebraska, but tree planting festivals are as old as civilization.
